How We Evaluate Insurers
Our ratings are based on five criteria, each weighted for military relevance:
Price and Value (weighted for military)
We compare rates for military-specific profiles - active duty, veterans at various years of service, PCS scenarios. Not average civilian rates.
Military Discounts
Deployment discounts, active duty discounts, storage discounts, and OCONUS capabilities are scored separately from standard discounts.
Customer Service
We score based on J.D. Power ratings, BBB ratings, and verified customer feedback from military-specific communities and forums.
Claims Process
We weigh J.D. Power Claims Satisfaction scores heavily. The best policy is useless if the insurer fights every claim.
Financial Strength
AM Best ratings ensure the insurer can actually pay claims. We only recommend insurers with A or higher ratings.
Our Editorial Standards
We list cons, not just pros. Every review includes real drawbacks. We don't adjust ratings based on affiliate relationships. If USAA has a higher deployment discount than GEICO Military - we say so, even if GEICO pays a higher commission.
Ratings are updated annually. Pages are clearly dated. We don't present 2022 data as current.
